Remote Screening for Developmental Language Disorder in Bilingual Children: Preliminary Validation in Spanish–Italian Speaking Preschool Children

Due to the difficulties in differentiating bilingual children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) from temporary language that may be caused by heterogeneous input, assessments of are challenging for clinicians. Research demonstrates should all languages a child speaks. This can arduous clinicians, but computerised screening approaches provide potential solutions. MuLiMi is new web-based platform designed automatise procedures at risk DLD. To validate this procedure and investigate its reliability, 36 Spanish-speaking children, aged 4–6 years old, living Italy, were tested remotely using Italian–Spanish DLD screening. Sixteen participants previously diagnosed L2 (second or societal language) as well L1 (first family abilities static (nonword repetition, grammaticality judgement, verb comprehension) dynamic tasks (dynamic novel word learning) assessed. Speed accuracy children’s responses automatically recorded (except nonword repetition). Significant associations emerged between results obtained when comparing them parental questionnaires standardised tests. An exploratory analysis diagnostic indicates single scores overall total score significantly contribute (risk) identification.
